I failed french class in seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth grade before I finally just got plain ole' kicked out of french my junior year. (And when I say "failed" I don't mean a "C+"...I mean FAILED!) Getting kicked out was such a relief...how slow is a educational system when it takes you 4 and a half years to convince them you aren't really enjoying learning french. I couldn't see the practical use for it...wasn't helping me get my license, certainly wasn't helping to convince my parents to extend my curfew, and I wasn't getting asked out any more for knowing it...and then my brother went and married the most elegant, exquiste, beautiful french girl you have ever seen. Truly...she is graceful and refined and her 3 small children could speak more french by the time they were 2 than I could in 5 years of school. And she throws the most amazing "dinners" I have ever attended. The picture above was the spread for my brother's birthday dinner in September...

And so I'd like to dedicate this post to ML and the beauty she sees in her every day life. I'd like to thank her for the many dinners she has hosted in her beautiful backyard that were a reminder of the power that good food mingled with great company has in life. I'd like to thank her for helping me to slow down and literally smell the roses and enjoy the tomatoes off the vine and reintroducing me to crusty, warm bread with a simple slice of cheese.

I wish I'd paid more attention in french class...good thing she did so much better than me in her foreign language class! I love you ML!

If only we could all feel as charming as ML really is...I automatically feel obnoxious, ya know? VIVE LA FRANCE!

A good time was had by all. What are we going to do in the winter? And what jeans am I wearing? I need to follow my own advice better.
